Music I play - Info about what I play Music Reference - Useful reference info about music If you want to know about instruments I have made, go to my Luthiery page. A Luthier is an instrument maker.
Music I PlayI mostly play saxophones (Yanagisawa tenor, Keilworth ST90-III soprano, Beuscher Aristocrat alto), but also flute, tin whistles, piano, guitar, uilleann pipes and others. I currently play tenor sax in the Kelvin Grove Wind Ensemble. The other instruments I play at church or at home or anywhere else.
Music ReferenceSaxophone Growling: Click here for a description of how to growl on the saxophone. Saxophone Altissimo: On discussion groups, people always ask for fingering charts of the altissimo register of the saxophone. Mostly, they aren't ready for fingering charts, because lots of practice and special exercises are required before you can even try altissimo notes - it's not just a matter of knowing the fingering to play the notes. I recommend Sigurd Rascher's book "Top Tones for Saxophone". Now, for anyone who can already play some altissimo, and wants to extend it, or wants to try alternate fingerings, here is a chart of the fingerings I use on my tenor...Sax altissimo fingering chart. There are many alternate fingerings, but I find these work well, and provide a good progression from note to note up the scales.
